In the past, most of the hub bearings of cars were paired with single row tapered roller or ball bearings. With the development of technology, cars have been widely used in car hub units. The scope of use and use of hub bearing units is growing, and now it has developed to the third generation: the first generation is composed of double row angular contact bearings. The second generation has a flange for fixing the bearing in the outer raceway. The bearing can be simply bussed to the wheel shaft and fixed with a nut. It makes the maintenance of the car easier. The third generation hub bearing unit adopts the bearing unit and anti-lock brake system ABS. The hub unit is designed with an inner flange bolted to the drive shaft and an outer flange that holds the entire bearing together. Worn or damaged hub bearings or hub units will make your vehicle in the road on the occurrence of inappropriate and costly failure, or even harm your safety.
Please pay attention to the following items in the use and installation of hub bearings:
1. To ensure maximum safety and reliability, it is recommended that you check hub bearings regularly regardless of the age of the vehicle -- watch for early warning signs of bearing wear, including any friction noise during rotation or abnormal deceleration of the suspension combination wheels during turns. For rear-wheel drive vehicles it is recommended that the front hub bearings be lubricated when the vehicle travels to 38000 km. When replacing the brake system, check the bearing and replace the oil seal.
2. If you hear the noise from the hub bearing part, first of all, it is important to find the location of the noise. There are many moving parts that may produce noise, and some rotating parts may be in contact with non-rotating parts. If it is confirmed to be noise in the bearing, the bearing may be damaged and needs to be replaced.
3. Because the working conditions of bearing failure on both sides caused by the front hub are similar, it is also recommended to replace in pairs even if only one bearing is damaged.
4, hub bearings are more sensitive, in any case need to use the right method and appropriate tools. In the process of storage, transportation and installation, the parts of bearings should not be damaged. Some bearings require greater pressure, so special tools are needed. Be sure to refer to the car manufacturing instructions.
5. When installing bearings, they should be installed in a clean and tidy environment. Small particles entering bearings will also shorten the service life of bearings. It is very important to keep a clean environment when replacing bearings. It is not allowed to knock the bearing with a hammer, and pay attention to the bearing not falling to the ground (or similar improper handling). Before installation, the condition of the shaft and bearing seat should also be checked. Even tiny wear will lead to poor fit, resulting in early failure of the bearing.
6. For the hub bearing unit, do not attempt to disassemble the hub bearing or adjust the seal ring of the hub unit, otherwise it will damage the seal ring and lead to the entry of water or dust. Even the raceways of the sealing ring and inner ring are damaged, resulting in permanent bearing failure.
7. There is a magnetic thrust ring in the seal ring of the bearing of the ABS device. This thrust ring can not be impacted, impacted or collided with other magnetic fields. Remove them from the box before installation and keep them away from magnetic fields such as motors or power tools in use. When installing these bearings, the operation of the bearings is changed by observing the ABS alarm needle on the instrument panel through a road test.
8. Hub bearing equipped with ABS magnetic thrust ring, in order to determine which side of the thrust ring is installed, you can use a light and small thing near the edge of the bearing, and the magnetic force generated by the bearing will attract it. Install with one side of the magnetic thrust ring pointing inwardly towards the ABS sensor. Note: Improper installation may cause the brake system to fail to function.
9. Many bearings are sealed, and this kind of bearing does not need to add grease throughout its life. Other non-sealed bearings such as double row tapered roller bearings must be lubricated with grease during installation. Because of the different size of the inner cavity of the bearing, it is difficult to determine how much oil to add. The most important thing is to ensure that there is oil in the bearing. If the oil is too much, when the bearing rotates, the excess oil will ooze out. General experience: during installation, the total amount of grease should account for 50% of the clearance of bearings.
